Helping Your Kids Learn By Your Example
Imitation, or mimicry, is one of the first things every child learns. From then on, children would then use this to help them establish their behavioral patterns, learn how to speak and do certain actions, and care for themselves. This is a crucial stage, as children would consider your way as the right way and pattern their behavior accordingly. As your child grows, he or she would forever remember your examples as the benchmark for good and proper behavior in the real world.
Because of this, it is important for us to set not just any example, but the right example for our kids. And it’s not just that – you would need to set good examples when communicating with your spouse, your mother, father, family members or friends. We should openly admit to our children any mistakes we make, as we admit these to our other family members.
We also need to take proper care of ourselves. It’s natural to love your kids and shower them with attention, but to neglect one’s health and welfare in the process isn’t right at all. Our family and children matter so much to us, so it’s important that we maintain our health on all accounts so that we can be the perfect role model when it comes to taking care of our children at this crucial stage in their lives. Love yourself just as you love your kids, and you’re on the right track to teaching them some valuable lessons in life. Your child’s self-esteem can greatly benefit from this simple technique. You can set an example by getting a sitter while you and your spouse go out on a movie date just like you used to back in the early days. While you may be gone for a short while, your kids will learn to get along during this short period of time, and see you as a real person, and not just Mom or Dad.
Value your relationship with your spouse in the same way you value that between you and your kids. This is a chance for your children to see how you engage in healthy discussion and interaction with your spouse, and see how marriages should be ideally.
Your child will be very thankful when he or she develops these proper behaviors in due time. These actions could help your child develop self-confidence and a sense of security, and turn out right in a few years’ time.
